With a wide range of railway switches, we are able to provide customers with the right solution.

Our portfolio includes disconnectors for visible electrical isolation of catenary sections, load-break switches for making/breaking under load and earthing switches for securely earthing voltage-free overhead line sections. We also offer motor drives, force transmission systems and single-phase auxiliary supply transformers. Our reliable switches are used in DC and AC applications worldwide. With more than 100 years of experience under our belt, you can rest assured you have got a reliable and future-driven partner on your side.

AC switches

Benefits that speak for themselves

Increase your system’s reliability
Our solid and resistant railway switches have an operating temperature range of -30°C to +40°C and are capable of withstanding the harshest climatic environments. They are fully functional even when subjected to heavy icing, humidity, pollution and salty atmospheres and ensure a proper switching process.
Achieve maximum safety
The auxiliary contact system allows safe switching in all weather conditions. Our motor drives are fail-safe and protected against overheating. In the event of a power cut, an emergency crank handle can be used to keep things up and running.
Cut your investment costs
Our switches are made using the best materials possible and offer a long service life of up to 10,000 cycles – guaranteed.
Cut maintenance costs
The switches are easy to install on site and are practically maintenance-free.
Get a perfect solution
Over 100 years’ experience in the business allows us to provide you with the best solution possible. Customisable components and a wide range of accessories are the perfect way to round off our range.

We express our satisfaction of using R&S switches. The switches are reliable, have a high quality and are trouble-free under operation.

We tailor our solutions to you

We offer three different AC railway switch designs as standard.

B1: rocker-type switch with a flexible conductor between the main contact’s moving part and the overhead line’s fixed terminal. Both of the load-break switch’s terminals can be connected to rigid connections that enable dense switch placement and optimum use of space.
B2: rocker-type switch without a flexible conductor connection. This version is very compact and economical. A connection to this load-break switch must be established using a flexible conductor that allows the switching arm to move.
B3: knife-type switch for applications requiring a nominal current of up to 2,000 A.

If our standard solutions don’t quite meet all your requirements, we can make customised solutions on request. Project-tailored solutions are made with direct customer involvement to create the perfect solution. Since we’re highly flexible, we can exchange entire components to suit specific projects and kit out our solutions with materials that’re perfect for the applications.

AC Disconnector

- Available as a rocker-type switch with a flexible conductor (B1) or without a flexible conductor (B2) and as a knife-type switch (B3)
- Can be combined to create a two-pole switch
- 15 kV and 25 kV
- AC application

AC Load Break Switch

- Available as a rocker-type switch with a flexible conductor (B1) or without a flexible conductor (B2) and as a knife-type switch (B3)
- Can be combined to create a two-pole switch
- 15 kV or 25 kV
- AC application

AC Earthing Switch

- Available as a rocker-type switch without a flexible conductor (B2) and as a knife-type switch (B3)
- Can be combined to create a two-pole switch
- 15 kV or 25 kV
- AC application

AC Maintenance Switch

- Manual operation
- 15 kV or 25 kV
- AC application

DC Disconnector

- Available as an outdoor switch (C1) and an indoor switch (C2)
- Can be combined to create a two-pole switch
- Up to 3 kV
- DC application

DC Earthing Switch

- Can be combined to create a two-pole switch
- Up to 3 kV
- DC application

Motor Drive

- Remote control and operation
- Available with a motor-driven spindle (MFL) or a transmission motor (MDR3)
- Options including integrated heating or local electrical operation

Crank Handle

- Permits switch operation if conditions do not allow use of a motor drive

Operating rod assembly

- Transfer from the motor or crank handle to the switch
- For distances of up to 10 metres

Flexball

- Transfer from the motor or crank handle to the switch
- Suitable where space is tight or surfaces are uneven (e.g. in tunnels)
